Collins Dictionary update I just read on the ABC news website that a new edition of the Collins dictionary has just been released with 500 new words. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/08/01/1994345.htm
I feel quite sheltered and 'un-hip' because I don't think I have heard any of the new words that they mention (My use of the word 'un-hip' is an obvious giveaway to my total lack of awareness for current slang  )
Any suggestions for the meanings of 'statto', 'flob' and 'cankle'?
How do you feel about the new words being added to the dictionary?

Cankles are when there is no distinction between calves and ankles - the leg is undefined. As in "Ugh - that dress makes me look like I have cankles."

Is it that difficult to say "fat ankles"? Do we really need a whole new word to describe it? No wonder obesity is such a problem, we are too lazy to say two words when we can merge them into one. We do it with celebrity names (Benifer, Brangelina).
Do these lazy word combinations really count as new words?

Nono no - cankles are not necessarily fat. You can have the skinniest legs in the world, and still have cankles. So saying fat ankles wouldn't always work.
And by your definition Goodbye is lazy. :)
I love visiting the Urban Dictionary when I come up against a slang term that I am not familiar with. Warning: frequent coarse language.
It tells me that 'statto' is a non-derogatory term for a geek (from statistician) and 'flob' has numerous meanings.
